began as an unplanned, free-flowing portrait. She was a spontaneous dialogue between colour, movement, and intuition. Working on a large, unstretched canvas, I layered bold, textured strokes of oil over delicate washes beneath. I started with no clear vision of form, only a sense of the palette that called to me.
As the painting evolved, the figure transformed many times. At one stage, a daisy chain adorned her hair: light, playful, fleeting. Eventually, I drew inspiration from the enduring spirit of Frida Kahlo, whose strength and unapologetic femininity have long inspired me. Like Frida’s signature flowers,
